This tune is always personal. It seems we sing what has been sung to us by our parents or even a meaningful song during a difficult time of our lives. Perhaps we hum the song for just the soaring melody and can’t really even remember where we heard it. For whatever reason, we have a “go-to” tune and it then becomes meaningful to our child.

I found that a very interesting song became that to me when I first became a mother. The song is The Rainbow Connection from the Muppet Movie. Kermet the Frog sings it and he sings about dreamers and magic and our connection to each other. It was simple and I knew all the words from my childhood. It has become a family favorite. My children all were sung to sleep to this song.

I want to give, as you do, a gift that will last in my children’s lives. There are very few items that are special enough to survive time in the life of your child. Our newest team member is Robert! He joined Music Box Attic in February of this year, and we love having him.

Robert spends a lot of his time in the office processing your orders, making sure you get everything you want! He also handles shipping out your items which is probably one of the most important jobs because it’s what actually gets your music box to you. Shipping items seems simple, but it’s not! For example, Robert has to ship oddly shaped items such as the Illuminated Musical Snowfall Tree by Thomas Kinkade When it comes to shipping a very expensive item that is almost impossible to replace, like the Instrumental and Floral 36 Note Wood Inlay box Robert has to make sure the item is securely packed and insured, as well as easy to track down. Luckily for us, Robert also has a background in graphic art. So we now have someone in house who can create banners and artwork for our website when a holiday is coming up, or when a music box sale is happening! Music boxes came about in the 19th century, the bulk of music box production was concentrated in Switzerland, building upon a strong watchmaking tradition. The first music box factory was opened there in 1815 by Jérémie Recordon and Samuel Junod. As the years passed, more and more classical songs were added to the list of musical movement options. You probably know this guy very well! Mike has many hats at Music Box Attic, but he definitely spends a lot of time on the phone with you, our customer. Mike is great at answering any questions you have!! We’re so lucky to have Mike on our team. We found him in 2009 and after one initial interview, invited him to join us.

Mike is so great with computers, he’s always there to help me with any question I have. I like to think of him as the photoshopping wizard. He also takes the beautiful snap shots of the music boxes you see on Music Box Attic (We don’t photoshop the boxes though! They are just as beautiful and striking in person!). One other task Mike is in charge of is the beautiful engraved plaques you can choose to put on your music box for an extra sentimental touch.

Mike is married to a beautiful French woman, who just so happens to work at a French school here in California! When it came time to give the seniors at her school a graduating gift, the school of course decided to give the class music boxes!! We were so proud to be a part of such an important milestone in their lives, and we hope the music boxes they were given will remind them of their achievement forever.
